At the Whisky show “Whisky & Tobacco Days” in Hofheim near Frankfurt/Germany, our Douglas Laing's Fellow, Dr. Heinz Weinberger from Whisky-Connaisseur, presented Douglas Laing's extensive whisky portfolio. Here are his impressions...

-Motto of “Whisky & Tobacco Days” Show in Hofheim
The Whisky fair "Whisky & Tobacco Days" always takes place on the last weekend in October in Hofheim am Taunus, in the Rhine-Main area west of Frankfurt in the federal state of Hesse – and has been for twelve years. The focus is on Scottish Whiskies, mostly from independent bottlers. Douglas Laing bottlings have not been represented at this Whisky fair so far, but as a Douglas Laing’s Honorary Malt Ambassador, I set out to change that this year. In advance, Douglas Laing and the German importer Bremer Spirituosen Contor (BSC) provided me with sufficient marketing material and various giveaways. I had a varied selection of a total of 30 Single Malt, Single Grain and Blended Malt bottlings with me. Of these, the following were particularly in demand among the 1000 visitors over the two days of the fair:
Blair Athol 8yo Sherry Butt (DL13378)
A full-bodied, sweet sherried single Malt with complex fruit, fine spices, toasted oak and subtle coffee flavours
Port Dundas 14yo PX Sherry Butt Finish (DL13039)
A quaffable, rich and complex single grain with a delicate sweetness that is balanced with dark fruits, pleasant spices and a really enjoyable nuttiness
Tormore 25yo Refill Butt (DL12025)
A rich and powerful single Malt with dark fruits, sherry aromas and raisins, in beautiful balance with oak notes, tobacco and dark chocolate
Aged Limited Editions
|Scallywag 12yo Cask Strength||Rich, fruity and sweet with notes of fruits, molasses and maple syrup, followed by vanilla, Malted barley and soft spices|
|Timorous Beastie 25yo||A fruit bomb - full of ripe yellow fruits, mainly juicy pears and apricots, accompanied by subtle oak spice, vanilla, honey and nutmeg|
|The Gauldrons Batch 02||Slightly oily, paired with a maritime note, clean fruitiness, sweet Malted barley and warming peppery spice|
Many visitors came to my stand who knew nothing or not much about Douglas Laing and their bottlings. After their visit and enjoying one or the other dram of RRM, OP or XOP bottlings, they were much smarter and absolutely convinced of the outstanding quality of the Whiskies. In an additional tasting which I hosted, I was able to convince the interested guests of the speciality of the bottlings from the Remarkable Regional Malts series, such as Scallywag 12yo Cask Strength, Timorous Beastie 18yo and Big Peat Christmas Edition 2019. Conclusion after two days: Douglas Laing has finally arrived in Hofheim!
The visitors especially appreciated the many giveaways that could be found at my stand. This made me stand out clearly from all the other exhibitors. Especially the Big Peat sunglasses, RRM stickers, tasting glasses and brochures were in great demand. Many thanks again to Douglas Laing and BSC. The next “Whisky & Tobacco Days” will take place from 24th to 25th October 2020, and I will be there again hosting a tasting and presenting excellent bottlings of Douglas Laing.
