Big Peat Reveals Music Matured Limited Edition Islay Whisky

Douglas Laing & Co, leading family Scotch Whisky business, today announces Big Peat’s music-aged Limited Edition, “Big Beat”.

The label depicts the Ileach fisherman behind his cask-top turntables, sharing some of his favourite tunes in the middle of the Whisky warehouse, whilst colourful strobe lights gleam in the background. Playing music within “his” warehouse causes the spirit inside each cask to gently dance, picking up extra flavour from the wood. This special bottling is a marriage of Single Cask Single Malts distilled exclusively on Islay and proudly offered to you without colouring or chill-filtration. At a “noisy” 48% ABV, the Whisky “entails a high frequency of smoke alongside dark chocolate and sea salt”.

Fred Laing, Chairman at Douglas Laing and creator of Big Peat, comments:

“Having carried out extensive experiments by which music is played within our warehouses, we have seen a direct correlation in the amount of flavour and character picked up by the spirit. The pulsation caused by Big Peat’s favourite bass-heavy tunes leads to increased contact with the wood, in turn allowing for the spirit to pick up a wonderful melody of sweet and smoke that hits just the right note!”

Big Beat is available now from specialist retailers, with just 500 cases available globally. 


TASTING NOTES

Nose: The opening bar reveals notes of damp earth, a peppery warmth, dark chocolate and tarry ropes

Palate: A perfectly balanced symphony of peat smoke, burnt brown sugar, dried seaweed and new leather

Finish: “He” hits the high note with a long finish of streaky bacon, toasted marshmallows and charred oak
