We currently have an exciting vacancy open for an Operations Manager to join the Douglas Laing team! This is a key role within our growing Operations department, as such, you will be: experienced in Scotch Whisky operations ensuring key targets and disciplines are met in H&S, Production, Cost, Quality, Customer Service and People development

 

As Operations Manager, you will be:

Experienced in the sales of spirits and passionate about the whisky industry. You will also be innovative and strategic-minded with a desire to achieve greatness whilst also being enthusiastic about building our business and brands.

Of course, it is also important to have great computer skills including PowerPoint and Excel proficiency, great organisation and time management skills.

 

KEY ROLE:

Support and report to the Head of Operations by playing a fundamental role in Douglas Laing’s Whisky supply operations – from Malt intake to cased goods dispatch. This role will be primarily focused on driving performance of our new bottling/packaging/warehousing operation while providing support throughout business as required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and motivate your direct reports to achieve maximum employee engagement
  • Lead recruitment of team and develop plans to ensure training and skill levels to ensure delivery of bottling KPI’s
  • Maximise value by developing production plans to manage the large complexity of bottling operations, which includes everything from Large run non aged blend to exclusive 60 year old single casks.
  • Play a part in ensuring that the large volume of NPD projects are delivered.
  • Manage cased to stock to ensure FIFO and right first time order fulfilment.
  • Ensure effective maintenance of site and equipment, and to support plans for capital projects and improvements. Support distilling operations within the maintenance function.
  • Develop relationships with key suppliers to ensure On Time In Full and Right First Time
  • Manages Quality Assurances standards, audits, specification compliance, quality performance and complaint investigation and problem solving
  • Develops, manages and delivers monthly reports focusing on safety and performance
  • Promotes and drives the development of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement across all functions within Operations
  • Challenge existing processes, practices and ways of working to identify new opportunities for improvement and efficiencies

 

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Whisky / spirits operations
  • IT skills and proficient use of all Microsoft Office Products
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Qualified to degree level (desirable)
  • Experience in managing a multi-functional site

UK Country Manager Glasgow · Competitive Salary · Full-Time · Permanent
We have an exciting opportunity for a UK Country Manager to join the Douglas Laing team! This role will be responsible for Douglas Laing’s UK On & Off Trade Sales teams and channel. Ultimately you will work to improve Douglas Laing's market position within key areas in order to achieve financial growth by increasing sales, building key customer relationships, identifying business opportunities, negotiating and closing business deals and growing and developing the UK team.

 

As UK Country Manager at Douglas Laing, you will be:

 

Experienced in the sales of spirits with the ability to lead by example and to coach, motivate and nurture your team by building on their strengths. You will also be innovative and strategic-minded with a desire to achieve greatness whilst also being passionate about building our business and brands.

A hands-on approach with key Major Multiple retail partners is needed.

Of course, it is also important to have great computer skills including PowerPoint and Excel proficiency, great organisation and time management skills.

 

KEY ROLE:

Support and report to the Sales Director and Board by playing a fundamental role in growing the Douglas Laing business across the UK.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creation, development and implementation of key channel marketing and business plan to ensure growth throughout the country
  • Motivating the Sales team to achieve / over-achieve
  • Implementing the Brand plan in market
  • Setting activity and sales targets and KPI’s for members of the sales team
  • Identifying key areas for improvement in the sales process
  • Continual training and development of all members of the sales team
  • Attending key meetings with members of the sales team
  • Identifying new business opportunities
  • Full responsibility of the P&L for the UK Market
  • Forecasting and depletion planning
  • Attending industry events to generate new business leads
  • Acting as a spokesperson for Douglas Laing at national events / meetings
  • Research and build relationships with new customers
  • Plan approaches and pitches - developing well thought-through proposals that meets to the customer’s needs, concerns and objectives
  • Focus on customer retention by regular communication, presenting new products and value added services / activity that enhance existing relationships
  • Work with Marketing to generate innovative ideas to meet customer needs
  • Present to and consult with CEO on market trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels
  • Identify opportunities for brand building activity and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sale
  • Monthly progress reports 

 

 

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive exposure to sales, account management, people management from highly recognised Drinks or FMCG brands
  • A dynamic, proactive and creative profile
  • Direct exposure and success in the Grocery channel
  • True leadership skills backed with high levels of energy and a strategic approach to business development.
  • A clear ability to work both strategically and at the hands-on level with large customers
  • Great knowledge of the UK drinks market. Specialist bias to off trade sector.
  • Complimented by working knowledge and track record of success in the on-trade sector.
  • Demonstrable evidence of strong negotiation, commercial and strategic planning skills
